Ee decided to pop in to one of my old haunts the Clifton Arms after a show in nearby Waterperry ,hadent been there for years we had a drink and decided to have a meal, the staff were very polite the landlady very welcoming ,any way we ordered our food two of us decided to have fish and chips the other two had ceser salad and the other meal was king prawns . A couple opposite had some starters they were half way through when their main course was served up even though they were not ready for it , the waitress didn't offer to take it beck until they were ready for it. .a-table behind us left there meals and left the pub ,ours arrive the Caesar salad had no chicken but then we were not asked if we wanted any the fish was warm but not as warm as it could be the chips were great very tasty the mushy peas were as cold as ice in the middle . We asked for butter for the bread they forgot to serve this up .

What a great venue for a Saturday afternoon lunch. As a group of 14 people we were warmly welcomed and the service that we received was top notch so thank you Kenza and the team. The food was amazing and the portions were of a generous size. We eat out every 3 weeks and I have to say that The Clifden Arms rank pretty high on my list right now. We will definitely be making a return visit.

Great clean and spacious room adjoined to the loveliest country pub. We stayed one night with our 2 little kids and it was very comfortable, the room not being right inside the pub meant that it was very calm. The staff was very kind and accommodating, the breakfast was super good (special mention for the eggs benedicts!), all in all, an amazing find right at the outskirts of Oxford.

First impression: not great. Unclear where to check in. We entered the main building, there was a lady behind the bar who completely ignored us. No greeting, no inquiry if we needed anything, while we were clearly unsure if we were at the right place and trying to make eyecontact. Her behavior made us hesitant to ask her for directions. Not the best start, when arriving tired after a long drive. (The young man who we met at the 'restaurant' desk and who checked us in, was very friendly though.) The room was not ready for us, though we checked in 1 hour after our confirmed check-in time. The sofa bed of the kids was not yet unfolded and had to be made later on when we were at dinner. Our experience improved a lot when we arrived for dinner. Both young ladies at the desk (one also was our waitress) were very friendly, welcoming and polite. The food was excellent. We had a perfectly cooked rib-eye with a delicious blue cheese sauce, a tasty monk fish, crispy Korean style chicken and a kids plate with juicy sausages. Room and bathroom looked quite clean at first sight, but found a dirty cotton bud of previous guest and a dead spider on bathroomfloor behind the bin, there was no trashbag in the (dingy) bin, inside of toiletseat not very clean. The shower went cold after drawing 1 bath. So the rest of the family could not get a warm shower anymore... The master bed was very comfortable. The sofabed was ok for 1 night. Plenty of soft and clean towels. The breakfast bap was very tasty, the avocado and eggs on toast could have been great if it would not have had a strange sour taste (vinegar?). The kids waffles had been baked too long, were too hard, while the bacon was not baked long enough, wasn't crispy. The yoghurt and the cappucino were delicious. So we had a very mixed experience in all.
