The Whitaker

Great place for a family day out! There’s plenty of parking available, lots of open space for kids to play, and many picnic areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The food trucks offering pizza, coffee, and ice cream are a nice touch, although the ice cream is a bit overpriced. Queues can get quite long, so it would really help to have an additional drinks truck outside—especially for those who just want a hot drink, as some of the available drinks weren’t very warm. The souvenir shop was a bit underwhelming, with limited small items. It would be nice to see more options, like fridge magnets or keepsakes specifically branded with "Monkey Forest." Overall, a lovely place with great potential—just a few improvements could make the experience even better.

Brilliant local museum hiding in plain sight housing a fascinating permanent collection, especially the Cabinet of Curiosities. The museum hosts regular contemporary art exhibitions, and a range of community activities and workshops. The grounds feature a community garden, tennis courts, and sculptures, and there is now a bar and restaurant. Free entry, with donation points which take cash or card, and there's a gift shop. A short walk from Rawtenstall town centre, and accessible via the 464 bus route (Accrington - Rochdale).

I regularly visit Whitaker park and have been in the museum. It is such a brilliant place. It has lots of history and artwork on display. I believe there are lots of interesting events on that can be booked in advance. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable I was absolutely thrilled that Pride in the park was hosted here and it was a free event! The website is easily accessible and has great information but an in person visit is much better. As far as I remember it was wheelchair accessible but I am not a wheelchair user, although I try to look for inclusion in public spaces as we all deserve to be there

Lovely museum/art gallery and restaurant set in a beautiful park, maintained by local volunteers (Civic Pride)

As well as permanent displays and info on local history the museum has collections of thought provoking contemporary art. Its set in large gardens and has great views. The cafe serves great quality food with professional and friendly service in a bright and well designed space. All in all excellent and definitely worth a visit.
