The Stanneylands

We really enjoyed our stay at this charming, traditional hotel. It has plenty of character, with lovely period features that give it a warm and welcoming feel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was excellent, and there was a lovely outdoor seating area to relax in. We also found the prices to be very reasonable. The only downside was that the room was extremely warm, as there is no air conditioning—just a small fan. We did discover that turning off the heated towel rail in the bathroom made a huge difference and cooled the room down significantly, so it's worth doing if you're staying here. Overall, it's a lovely hotel with great food, spacious rooms and lots of character. We'd definitely stay again.

Visited for Sunday lunch with the family.. it was marvellous as usual.. never disappoints. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional in a gorgeous dining room. All our courses were Sooo tasty .. the starter sharer of Burrata..delicious with padron peppers, olives, tomatoe and red onion and fresh warm bread. The Sunday roast.. yum and such a large portion. Lots of meat and veg.. and all the extras.. stuffing balls and pigs in blankets with the Turkey.. and the beef rump was so tender and juicy and topped off with a large Yorkshire pudd! The signature Cheese and onion pie was delicious too. Thanks to all the staff for making it such a brilliant sunday lunch experience.

Great location for accessing countryside. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely the best aspect of this hotel. Room was very average for price. They are a good size but were bit tired and lacked fridge and air conditioning. I stayed in summer, but the heating system looked very old. Water pressure and shower etc were all great. I suspect there is a bit of a lottery in room quality depending on tier of room and luck etc. The more expensive tiers are probably much better. Food was okay, but probably not good enough to eat here as a destination, but good enough for the convenience of eating in the hotel if you are staying here. The breakfast was well above average.
