A great place to spend a chill Sunday. The Sunday roast we had for lunch was absolutely delicious. The beef was really flavorful, and there were plenty of vegetables, which made the meal feel very generous and satisfying.
Lots of wine selections available. Meals are delicious and invitingly presented. Whether sitting in or outside, the views are very nice and entertaining. Convenience is upstairs and very neat. Good place for meetings and relaxation with friends.
Went with a group of 4 for a fish and chips lunch. Outstanding fish, but the chips and pees were a bit lacking. The whole building seems renovated quite recently, and has a very nice atmosphere around it. Very close to Woolwich Elizabeth line station and only 5mins walk from Woolwich Arsenal national rail and DLR station. Would recommend for the fish, if you are a big fan of chips, maybe look for something else. Other thing that was a bit off was the coke, but I assume they had a problem with their machine that day due to the heat. Speaking of which place is Air Conditioned.
This is an updated review as I was asked back after my Christmas dinner review. I came on a Friday 9th Jan at 6pm and I ordered a pork ribeye and it was so juicy and cooked very well, melt in your mouth! Portion size just right. For dessert I had a burt NYC cheese cake (thought I'd try something different). Customer service was on point, warm and welcoming! I can say I will definitely be coming back 🥰 Thank you
Terrible experience today and i normally never leave bad reviews. Ordered fish and chips. Overcooked super hard brown batter that was not possible to eat. Fish didn’t taste fresh. Chips looked like they have been cooked over and over again - hard and broken. Had to leave most of the food. Mentioned it to the waiter who "kindly" took off £2.50 off the bill for the child’s ice cream. Seriously? Definitely do not recommend especially for the price as it’s probably the worst fish and chips I ever had! Please do not waste your money! Follow up in response to the response provided: no I was not offered a new dish and no it wasn’t mostly eaten. The £2.50 for the ice cream was just taken off the bill once you already printed it and was not offered or discussed prior to providing the bill. It’s also in no way adequate compensation for the absolutely awful main dish considering the price. Anyway I did not want to cause the drama or have an argument about it as came with the child.
Jan26 UPDATE Had the best roast here in a long time. Vegan option was delicious, and rivalled the standard roasts. The portions were very generous, and we’re looking forward to coming back. ***** Four stars for the Guardhouse, a regular Thursday haunt. The sofas in the central seating area are good for a relaxed pint, while the outdoor tables give a good view of the square and offer table service. Staff are friendly and once went out of their way to grab food from the Dial Arch for a coeliac friend. That sort of thing goes a long way. The drinks selection is solid . The wine list changes regularly keeping things interesting, and the seasonal cocktails give a bit of variety. It does its job well. A reliable alternative to some of the other pubs nearby.
We had our wedding lunch at The Guard House and it was wonderful from start to finish. The food was fantastic: every one of our guests praised the chef, and the staff were just as lovely, warm and attentive throughout the day. Souky and her team also kindly decorated the space exactly as we'd discussed, which meant we could relax and enjoy ourselves without lifting a finger. A genuinely stress-free, beautiful day, and we can't thank them enough. Highly recommended.
