Sheepfolds Stables

Had a really good time at Sheepfolds Stables. It’s such a solid addition to Sunderland and actually feels like somewhere a bit different. The whole place has been done up properly well. It’s got that perfect mix of modern and cosy without trying too hard, and the atmosphere is spot on whether you’re there for food or just a few drinks. It genuinely feels like something you’d expect in a bigger city. Food was great; good quality, decent portions, and loads of choice so everyone’s sorted. The vibe in the evening is especially good, busy but in a good way. Only thing I’d say is the rosé wine isn’t great… tastes a bit cheap. It would be unreal if they added a proper Provence rosé to the menu. Other than that, can’t fault it. Easily one of the best spots in Sunderland right now. I’ll definitely be back.

Had a walk around here on my lunch break, atmosphere was really good, relaxed casual vibes during the day. Area is really well maintained and pays tribute to the history of the area. Everywhere was very clean and well maintained, good variety of food and drinks outlets with plenty of outdoor seating.

Great place for a few beers or a bite to eat from the many outlets (Pizza, Propa Pies or either of the two more "formal" restaurants on site). Only downside is that they no longer serve any of the independent brewery beers. Bring back the Vaux Freddies Drop!

Sheepfolds Stables blends heritage with a genuinely lively atmosphere. Knowing the site once housed working horses for the railway adds a subtle charm that makes the experience feel more meaningful than your typical food and drink venue. The mix of independent spots and the beautifully restored courtyard creates a relaxed, welcoming place that feels both historic and refreshingly current.

Went to Herd burgers here for lunch, the place was sterile and lacking character, the food can only be described as disappointment in a bun, once the servers had taken your order they weren’t interested in whether your food was okay or not. The fries were over done, the chicken tenders were overcooked, the frickles were meant to be served with a blue cheese sauce and arrived with aioli. I expected the chilli cheeseburger to come with a ladle of chilli con carne like elsewhere, but these guys just charge £4 for a sliced green chilli that adds nothing to the burger. Will not be returning!
