Osmaston Park

Further to my previous review, I can now say that there are breeding pairs of ring necked Parakeets in Osmaston Park as I have now found proof in the way of feathers being dropped next to a tree, where I had suspected a nest had been. My suspicions were aroused by what sounded like a bunch of kittens high up in the trees. About 6 weeks later we watched 3 juvenile parakeets playing above our heads as we sat on the log giving our dog water and a treat. Trying to catch one on video or photo was an impossible task but I will try again next season. Eventually all the flapping around resulted in a few lost feathers. I am now trying to map the park out as another find has made me suspicious that a raptor has also moved in.

Huge park with lots to do for the kids of different ages. Lots of space to run around, walk the dog see a bit of nature. There is a skate park for BMX and scooters. Beautiful is summer and the Jamaican carnival is held there. Close to amenities like Sainsbury's, McDonald's and KFC 😊

We walk a circuit nearly every evening with the dog, it's a very friendly place, has the sports and wild areas as well as a modern bike and skateboarding run. It's not a huge park but big enough for good dog and human exercise as well as being a sports hub and a children's playground.

Excellent recreational park. Natural environment. Children and young play area. Good for physical exercise. Good to spend a time there.

The park is an amazing place to visit. I have lived close by 16 years now and try to spend at least 30 minutes walking my rescue dog there each and every day. A few months ago I noticed a bird song that I had never heard before. I quickly put it down to House Martin's on the wing, due to a long streaming tail. A few months later on, I noticed that there was something very different about them and started to investigate... It turns out that the Ring-necked Parakeets from Alvaston Park have moved into Osmaston Park too. Now I know they are there, I have seen and heard them every single day since. It just adds to the beauty of Osmaston Park. The bike club that runs out of Osmaston Park is fantastic, it's so nice to see the children getting instruction and showing some awesome tricks. The sports facilities and play areas are well kept yet there are enough wildlife areas full of natural beauty. It's a slice of heaven in a busy city area.
