Very interesting castle/hold from Henry IIIV. Staff were very friendly, welcoming, and good at answering questions. Great exhibits of its original build/purpose and how it’s transformed over the centuries. Glad I popped in the day before visiting the Mary Rose Museum at the Historic Dockyard. These two attractions go very well together.
Great historical castle to explore around with so much to see. You must ring the bell which has a lovely sound. Cafe on site & the best part it’s FREE. Well worth a visit.
Visited on a weekday. Beautiful castle. Scenic view on top. There is a 10 meters Lighthouse too. There is a museum in the main building. There is a cafe too. There were several museum staff all around ready to provide information and answer any questions. Its free. You can walk to Southsea beach after your visit. Spend at least 1 to 2 hours here. Recommended.
Interesting piece of history. Easy to find and access. Many parking places around. Nice beach (pebbles), easy walk path, nice Southsea Rock Garden nearby. Good place for dog walking.
A true landmark for returning ferries or Royal Naval Vessels over the ages. With a lighthouse atop to ensure it can be seen all day every day. Open to the public to explore and occasional reenactments to bring it to life for children. Toilets and cafe restaurant complete the picture. Not an easy visit for those in a wheelchair as you need to go up stone steps to appreciate the views over the Solent. Parking is available on the main road beside the Common. D Day Museum, Aquarium and Skatepark are close by too. A good day out in itself and a short walk into the shopping and restaurant destinations of Southsea itself.
